Matariki Maori New Year
Matariki, or Maori New Year celebrations were once popular, but they stopped in the 1940s. Only a few people took part. Traditionally, Matariki was a time to remember those who had died in last year. But it was also a happy event. Matariki was a time for singing, dancing and feasting. It is celebrated more often these days. Matariki
